“If you watched the entire election cycle and concluded that Trump was nothing but a lucky clown, you missed one of the most important perceptual shifts in the history of humankind. I’ll fix that for you in this book.”
Adams was one of the earliest public figures to predict Trump’s win, doing so a week after Nate Silver put Trump’s odds at 2 percent in his FiveThirtyEight.com blog. The mainstream media regarded Trump as a novelty and a sideshow. But Adams recognized in Trump a level of persuasion you only see once in a generation.
Trump triggered massive cognitive dissonance and confirmation bias on both the left and the right. We’re hardwired to respond to emotion, not reason. We might listen to 10 percent of a speech—a hand gesture here, a phrase there—and if the right buttons are pushed, we decide we agree with the speaker and invent reasons to justify that decision after the fact.
The point isn’t whether Trump was right or wrong, good or bad. Win Bigly goes beyond politics to look at persuasion tools that can work in any setting—the same ones Adams saw in Steve Jobs when he invested in Apple decades ago. For instance:
· If you need to convince people that something is important, make a claim that’s directionally accurate but has a big exaggeration in it. Everyone will spend endless hours talking about how wrong it is and will remember the issue as high priority.
· Stop wasting time on elaborate presentation preparations. Inside, you’ll learn which components of your messaging matter, and where you can wing it.
· Planting simple, sticky ideas (such as “Crooked Hillary”) is more powerful than stating facts. Just find a phrase without previous baggage that grabs your audience at an emotional level.
Adams offers nothing less than “access to the admin passwords to human beings.” This is a must read if you care about persuading others in any field—or if you just want to resist the tactics of emotional persuasion when they’re used on you.

The anti-science, anti-reason, “the truth is whatever makes me feel best” conservatard snowflake ideology is being exposed on the world’s most prominent stage for the dumpster fire that it is. They overplayed their hand spectacularly and now even deep red districts are swinging blue, indicating an impending tidal wave this November.
In short, it’s a fad, and the rational majority are about to put it down, hard. If Mueller doesn’t beat us to it, of course. ;)
Facts still matter. The scientific method matters more than ever. Trumptards will find this out the hard way when they start sucking in dirty air and can’t afford sky-high healthcare costs on their ever-diminishing slave wages. Fox News can corrupt a mind a great deal, but reality comes crashing back in the end.
Enjoy the midterms, indoctrinated GOP-tards. :)

I think this method of propaganda has been described before, by a nasty Austrian fellow with a funny mustache.

great commentary, wishfire22…despite ages ago finding Dilbert hilarious, i had heard scott adams lost his mind awhile ago and, as i’m a progressive, i was wondering if this would be useful for any insight into the density on the right…only so many hours to listen, so many other books i’d rather listen to but not sure…thoughts?

As much as I enjoyed Dilbert when I was younger, I wish Scott Adams would stick to satire instead of politics.
While I understand disliking Trump as he’s pretty repugnant in my opinion, can anyone tell me in his book’s sections titled “Why I Endorsed Clinton” did he happen to mention why he willingly ignored the fact that Hillary committed numerous counts of perjury, obstruction of justice, evidence tampering, and treason in order to cover up her “innocent” emails? Or why he didn’t believe that Hillary violated her oath of office and multiple security clearance to use her personal email server for government business. Yeah, those 33,000+ emails were all about planning Chelsea’s wedding and yoga, right!!!

A true Trumpian, you have judged this book from its cover and got it completely backwards. Adams is a cheerleader for Trump. I’ve read half of this before I gave up.
Adams has committed himself to Trump’s cause and to justify that constructed a world in which Trump is a genius political manipulator, rather than an instinctive but fundamentally stupid and narcissistic demagogue whose only pol;icy ideas are to erase all the achievements of his black predecessor, no matter what disaster that courts. He looks set to start a nuclear confrontation with two countries at once, for instance.
And put a sock in the “But Hillary…” crap. The Republicans have investigated her over and over and over for the last 20 years and never found a charge that would stand up in court, just the same old fatuous talking points you recited.

@Gweilo, once again you must stoop to name calling. How old are you? I realize that 2016’s loss was very damaging to you personally, but isn’t it time to get over the fact that you faithfully followed a corrupt candidate.
Maybe someday you will step up and answer my question though as to how you can support candidate committed multiple felonies just to cover up her emails. And by the way, just because someone wasn’t charged with a crime, doesn’t mean it didn’t happen, it just means that justice has failed yet again.
As someone who voted for Obama, perhaps you should ask yourself why so many Americans like me didn’t vote for Hillary even though we lean or are Democrats. I’ll give you a hint, it wasn’t because of the Russians. Unlike yourself, we experienced the Clinton years once before and watched them make a mockery of our country.
I know you won’t get or understand this, because you truly are blind to being able to see the other side of the coin, but here is a tip, go Google Bill Clinton Last Day Pardon’s and see who the Special Prosecuter was that said Bill didn’t commit any crimes for accepting money for pardons for tax evaders, terrorists, and drug dealers.
Hillary’s campaign for her Senate seat got $200,000 from Marc Rich’s ex-wife alone when Marc got his pardon, while Bill’s library got $800,000.
Both of Hillary’s brother’s also profited from the pardons. That’s just one example of the Clintons in office.
So, while you call it crap, there are plenty of us that remember how Bill and Hillary abused and disgraced the office, and I’m not just talking about Monica Lewinski. Scandal after scandal were the Clinton years. And while the mainstream media didn’t report on it, what you call crap, is history.
Please though, step up, and answer the question of why you voted for someone who as a former lawyer, First Lady, Senator, and Secretary of State, could freely violate multiple oaths to protect the US, federal statues, and security agreements just so she wouldn’t be inconvenienced by having two emails?
Hate Trump all you want, I don’t care as do a lot of those people that voted for him. He is the lessor of two pathetic candidates.
But for your own sake though, step up or shut up, please. You look like a fool who hasn’t enough experience in life to judge yet.

@hardworker55337 “But Hillary but Hillary but Hillary …”
The books is about Trump, you keep retweeting Infowars/Russian gossip about Hillary. Like Trump, all you can do is deflect.
You don’t have to like her, few do, but if she had been guilty of 1/10th you and your ilk claim, she’d really would have been locked up.
Anyway, I was talking about the book, which I actually read some of, so unlike you, I have a clue what I’m talking about.
At least Adams used the novel tactic of making a case that Trump is actually smart. He seems to have really drank the Trump Kool-Aid.
May 23rd, 2018
Thank you very much.
May 23rd, 2018
@Gweilo, I truly am sorry that you just don’t get it. You can’t be critical of someone’s political viewpoint without considering the your own sides inadequacies.
You talk about deflection and Infowars/Russian gossip, but you still avoid the question addressed to you. And you claim I’m the one deflecting.
Perhaps one day you will gain the maturity necessary to look at both sides of an issue before forming such a rigid opinion. Ask questions, lot’s of questions.
For example, should politicals be held to the same standard as the populus, or does their holding or having held office exempt them from the laws of the land?
When can answer those types of questions, then perhaps someday you’ll be able to form an opinion that you can actually support without deflecting or denigrating someone else’s.
May 23rd, 2018
@hardworker55337 “You can’t be critical of someone’s political viewpoint without considering the your own sides inadequacies.”
Well, you have no trouble ignoring your own side’s inadequacies and only attacking people who have left the field.
This book is about Trump, not Hillary. Rambling on about her, pro or con, is off topic. Anyway, I read enough of it to give a review. You want to argue about Hillary, I’m sure there are plenty of people who will do that, but not me, not here.

Thanks for the upload. Why oh why does everything that is from the states about have to be so dam negative. I use to love the states have friends down there. Now I will not go near the place. Even seeing your flag makes me quesy I just wish you start the civil war and get it over with.
Again thanks for the upload.
May 23rd, 2018
@Gweilo, who said I ignored Trump’s inadequacies, my original questions clearly stated I find him repugnant. He’s poor material for President and not worthy of the office. But thank you for the laugh this morning. You’ve once again demonstrated that you can’t support your position. This time you deflect on to how it’s off topic so you won’t discuss it. Well, I’ll give you points for not threatening to run to the moderators whining to have it removed as you’ve done before.
Don’t worry though, you have plenty of company in not being able to answer the question. No Clinton supporter has ever answered it. And there is a simple reason for that. You can’t and still not admit: A) you either are too ignorant to recognize that she committed felonies to cover up supposedly nothing, or B) recognized that she committed the felonies and willingly accept an elitist class that isn’t held to the same standard.
Now, I suggest you go back to your safe space and worry about that nuclear war you mentioned or whatever the MSM scary headline of the day is. It’s just sad that you enjoy the smoke enema so much.
May 23rd, 2018
@hardworker55337 “you can’t support your position”?
My “position” is that Adams is a cheerleader for Trump and this book is unreadable unless you agree with him.
If you have nothing to say about the book, say nothing.
May 23rd, 2018
@Gweilo, so was the book unreadable because you couldn’t understand the words, or because you were afraid of the content.
My apologies, that was a bit snarky. But since you obviously limit yourself to reading/listening to only media that you agree with, you will continue to fail to understand anyone else’s point of view. And you do yourself a disservice, and demonstrate ignorance.
May 26th, 2018
@hardworker55337 Sure whatever; this from a guy who hasn’t read a word of the book, just fills up the comments with irrelevant attacks on other people and tedious Hannity talking points.
You really should read the book, it might make you a more effective propagandist.
May 27th, 2018
While I went into this book hoping for some useful learning and insights, I didn’t really get many. Most of it seems to be Scott Adams reaching ever further to try and convince both the reader (and seemingly himself) that there was great foresight at play.
He likes to frame a lot of things as being great, masterful communication techniques, and occasionally concedes that they may have been accidental rather than planned. However, overall all the pieces fail to fall together and convince; Towards the end of the book there seems to be a desperation for the reader/listener to stay with him and his ideas.
If it was half the length I might have rated it higher.
