Starship Titanic is the greatest, most fabulous, most technologically advanced interstellar cruise line ever built. It is like a cross between the Queen Mary, the Chrysler Building, Tutankhamen’s tomb, and Venice. Furthermore, it cannot possibly go wrong…
Sadly, however, seconds after its launch it undergoes SMEF, or Spontaneous Massive Existence Failure. And disappears.
Except, everything’s got to be somewhere.
Coming home that night, on a little known planet called Earth, Dan and Lucy Gibson find something very large and very, very shiny sticking into their house…

George Bernard Shaw said of E.J. Smith, the captain of the (first) Titanic, that only the English could make a hero of a man who sailed his brand new ocean liner at top speed straight into an iceberg - and then started shooting his passengers.
Thanx, C.

Caesar, I had not heard this. Too funny. I guess sad too. Thanks.

Don’t want to puncture any balloons, but it was written by (Python) Terry Jones at the request of Douglas, as an adaptation of the video game.

if he would of went full steam straight into the iceberg then it wouldnt have sunk, but he tried to avoid it at the last minute causing a giant tear in the side of the ship.

True enough, strongbelwas. The ship was too big and the rudders too small. Hard to determine what would’ve happened if they had gone ahead and bumped right into a massive (largely underwater) iceberg. They were still going at a fair old clip.
Leonardo may have survived, of course. But that’s an historical detail.
Any further objections to Shaw’s quote will have to be taken up with the great man himself. Or his estate.
The incredible Thomas Hardy (not the actor) wrote a superb poem about the Titanic & the iceberg entitled ‘The Convergence of the Twain’ - there’s no escaping fate.

This tried too hard to recapture the glory of Hitchhikes Guide to the Galaxy in writing style.
It failed for me, and one of the few times I didn’t finish an audiobook.
For me it sucked!
However, YMMV (your mileage may vary)
